120 Holocaust Survivors Light Chanukah Candles at the Kotel Amid Iron Swords War

Jerusalem, Israel - Dec. 11, 2023  - This evening (Monday), the lighting of the fifth Chanuka candle took place in the presence of Rabbi Yehuda Deri, the rabbi of Be'er Sheva, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, the rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, Rabbi Michael Malkieli, minister for religious services, Suli Eliav, director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Ziona Koenig-Yair, deputy president of the Israel Claims Conference, Greg Schneider, director of the Claims Conference, Amb. Colette Avital - Chairperson of  the Centre of Organizations of Holocaust Survivors in Israel and 120 Holocaust survivors.

Among the Holocaust survivors who attended this evening were individuals liberated from Ukraine during the war and later immigrated to Israel. In the shadow of the "Iron Swords" war, they chose to come and light the fifth Chanuka candle at the Western Wall.

The candle lighting ceremony will take place every evening during the Chanuka at 16:30 at the Western Wall Plaza and will be broadcast live on the Western Wall's website www.thekotel.org
