Baltimore Auto Thefts Surge, with East Baltimore as a Hotspot

Baltimore, MD - Nov. 18, 2023  - Auto thefts have surged in Baltimore, particularly in East Baltimore, largely due to an exploit making some Kia and Hyundai models more vulnerable to theft, accordig to the Baltimore Banner. As of November 7, there have been over 9,000 reported auto theft incidents in Baltimore City, a 229% increase from 2022 and more than the past two years combined. Baltimore County has also experienced rising auto theft rates, reaching as high as 5 incidents per 10,000 residents during the peak of the wave, which is four times higher than the previous year.
