A partial government shutdown is days away as lawmakers remain divided over how to manage out of control spending in Washington.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, (R) Tennessee, joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat to break it down.

“There are some measures that we would want to see that are not included. What we need to realize is the House is where the spending measures began and it would be a very good thing for the House to send to us a measure to work from,” she said. “They've had all year to work on the spending bills and haven't done it.”

On Tuesday, the Senate did advance a continuing resolution to keep the government funded while it continues to hashing out a budget. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy says it won't pass the House and he won't bring it to the floor for a vote.

“They said they were going to send us a C.R. They did not and conservatives would rather be working from the House mark, which includes the border measures and some funding for securing that southern border. These are these are components that should be in there. They should be on the table,” Blackburn said. “They should be a part of what we're going to do.”

The stop-gap measure that was passed to advance in the Senate would fund the government until November 19.
