Baltimore County Police Officers wore mourning bands on their badges Sunday to honor the memory of fallen hero, Officer Amy Sorrells Caprio.

On May 21, 2018, police said 29-year-old Officer Caprio responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in Perry Hall.

"A second call confirmed that a home was being burglarized by four suspects associated with the suspicious vehicle, which was later determined to be a stolen Jeep Wrangler," police said.

When Officer Caprio arrived and found the vehicle, police said she got out of her police car and asked the driver of the suspicious vehicle to exit the car.

Police said instead of getting out of the vehicle, the driver accelerated and fatally hit Officer Caprio.

Officer Caprio was nearly a four-year veteran of the Department, and married, police said. Officer Caprio's name, along with the names of other fallen heroes, is inscribed on a monument at Patriot Plaza in Towson.
