Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg won gold and silver medals at his first ever Brazilian jiujitsu tournament but not before getting into a loud argument with the referee, the New York Post reported.
Footage of the weekend tournament in Redwood City, California appeared to show a dispute between the 38-year old Facebook founder and a referee.
During the match, Zuckerberg was pinned to the mat after failing to pin his opponent. After two minutes, the referee gave the win to Zuckerberg’s competitor, believing Zuckerberg had tapped out.
Zuckerberg, who had not done so, stood up and then accused the ref of calling the match by mistake, leading to a testy exchange of words, according to Yahoo News.
The match eventually ended up in a 0-0 tie, which Zuckerberg did not have an issue with.
He later won gold and silver medals, sharing the prizes in an Instagram post on Sunday to his over 11 million followers.
"Competed in my first jiu jitsu tournament and won some medals for the Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu team,” Zuckerberg wrote in the post.
Zuckerberg has reportedly spent hours training in MMA gyms for the sport. In September, he shared a reel on Instagram of his training session.
In 2022, Zuckerberg used his interview with Joe Rogan, a former UFC commentator, to talk about his love of Brazilian jiujitsu, telling him that he began to train during the pandemic.
