Israel's security establishment has reached the understanding that the nation as at the beginning of a new security era in which it faces the possibility of attacks from multiple arenas at the same time.
"We are facing a new security era in which a real threat is possible from all sectors at the same time," Defense Minister Yoav Gallant explained today (Thursday). "We operated for years under the assumption that limited confrontations could be held, but this is a phenomenon that is disappearing. Today there is a noticeable phenomenon of the coalescence of arenas," he added.
The terrorist organization Hezbollah is believed to receive from Tehran about $700 million a year, as well as the transfer of technological knowledge and strategic intelligence. Hamas receives a smaller funding of about $100 million a year, alongside tens of millions of dollars which is given annually to Islamic Jihad. The pro-Iranian militias in Syria receive Hundreds of millions of dollars, and the Assad regime itself receives billions from the Ayatollahs' regime.
In neighboring Iraq, the Iranians provide hundreds of millions of dollars in salaries and weapons to the Shi'ite militias, while the Houthi rebels in Yemen also receive funding worth hundreds of millions of dollars a year. While funding terrorist elements throughout the region, Iran is closer than ever to a military nuclear capability. "In the face of this threat, we must act in one of two ways: military action or a credible military threat," the defense minister clarified.
Iran itself is growing stronger economically and militarily - which gives it room for action. "This is something that should keep the whole world and Israel awake at night," Gallant noted.
