From Towson Town Center, to Columbia Mall, to White Marsh Mall, the same frustration seems to be met with shoppers who say, they don't feel safe.

“That’s the world, this day and age. We’re not happy about it," said a White Marsh shopper.

Over in Towson, people are looking over their shoulder while at the Town Center.

“I feel a little bit cautious about things," said a Towson shopper.

In recent weeks, Towson has had a rash of crimes in and around the Towson Town Center.

“If you have a big event and you know there’s going to be a lot of people there with potential problems, you can pull certain units," said Pinkelton.

However, Pinkelton acknowledges most malls employee private security, because malls are private property.

Pinkelton says the job of securing malls should be done by uniformed police, even if stores have to front the bill to hire off duty officers.

“Otherwise, it’s just eye candy if you don’t actually have the officers there with the opportunity, with the authority to effect the arrest," said Pinkelton.
