AP: Turkish authorities are investigating contractors who may be responsible for the collapse of buildings in the aftermath of the earthquakes that hit the region on February 6th. The death toll has surpassed 33,000 and continues to rise. Among those being investigated are two people who were suspected of cutting down columns in a building that ultimately collapsed, leaving them detained. While Turkey's construction codes appear to meet earthquake-engineering standards, poor enforcement of the rules has led to thousands of buildings collapsing. Rescuers have located some survivors, including a pregnant woman and two children. Despite the slow response, the Turkish government has received support from other countries, including more than 9,500 personnel from 74 nations, including Israel.
