A man believed to have been wanted in a shooting fled from Baltimore City police, carjacked a driver in Towson and died by suicide, police said.

Baltimore City police released a statement Tuesday night, saying the helicopter unit, around 1:25 p.m, spotted a vehicle that was wanted in connection with a shooting on Jan. 16.

City police said the helicopter began following the car at West Franklin and North Payson streets, and additional units were called. Police said the helicopter continued to track the car as the driver sped off onto the Beltway and into Baltimore County.

Baltimore County police said the driver unsuccessfully tried to carjack a motorist in the 9200 block of Harford Road. Then, the assailant carjacked someone in a black car at Joppa Road and Loch Raven Boulevard, police said.

SkyTeam 11 reported that police tried to apprehend the assailant, but the person led officers on a pursuit before bailing out and running into a wooded area near Goucher Boulevard and Colbury Road.
