Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) picked up votes from 13 GOP holdouts on a historic 12th ballot for Speaker of the House.
He also gained support from one Republican who had been voting “present.”
But it wasn’t enough to put him over the finish as seven Republicans voted for another candidate.
The House will need to take a 13th vote on Speaker as negotiations between McCarthy, his allies and his detractors continue.
