With less than a month until students head back to class, public school districts in Maryland are still looking to fill hundreds of teacher positions.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools, in its August 3rd update on district-wide hiring, said it needed to fill 385 teacher vacancies.

Howard County and Harford County Public Schools tell FOX45 News they need to hire 96 and 35 teacher openings, respectively.

Some districts are also looking to hire dozens of bus drivers, cafeteria workers, support staff, and crossing guards before the start of the school year.

“School systems that mention in the past they maybe had 200 openings at the beginning of a school year, they have 800 this year,” said Dr. Linda Gronberg-Quinn, Director of the Teacher Education Department and the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). “You’re right. Where do you get those people? We’re trying. We’re trying.”
