It is with shock and sadness that Matzav.com reports the sudden petirah of Rav Shmuel Yehuda Levin zt”lrosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Telshe in Chicago, after suffering a heart attack. He was 63 years old.

Rav Levin was a son of Rav Avrohom Chaim Levin zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Telshe in Chicago, and a son-in-law of Rav Shmuel Faivelson zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Bais Medrash L’Torah of Monsey.

It was less than four years ago that Rav Avrohom Chaim Levin was niftar, and Rav Shmuel Yehuda, who had been a maggid shiur in Telshe, assumed the position of rosh yeshiva.

Rav Shmuel Yehuda was beloved by the talmidim, who connected to him in a unique way, not just drinking from his wellsprings of yedios haTorah, but benefiting from watching him and learning from his pure Torah hashkafah. His reinkeit, his aidelkeit, and his boundless devotion to the yeshiva and its talmidim were sources of inspiration to all who knew him.

Rav Levin had been in yeshiva as usual this Shabbos, delivering his weekly shmuess at seudah shlishis and davening Maariv for the amud. It was not long thereafter that he sustained a heart attack and was taken to the hospital, where he was niftar.

His petirah comes as a shock to his many talmidim and to the thousands of yedidim of Telshe Yeshiva, plunging the world of Telshe and the greater Olam HaTorah into mourning.

Rav Shmuel Yehuda is survived by his mother, Rebbetzin Esther Levin; his siblings; his wife, Rebbetzin Yehudis Levin; his children, and his grandchildren.

The levayah will be held at 10 a.m. at Telshe Yeshiva, located at 3535 W. Foster Avenue in Chicago, followed by a levayah at 6 p.m. at BMG’s Bais Yitzchok in Lakewood. The Aron will then be flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah in Bnei Brak Monday evening.
