Maryland Transit Administration riders will need to prepare to pay more starting June 26.
Single-ride fares will increase by 10 cents for core service -- which includes bus, light rail and Metro subway -- as part of a legislatively mandated fare increase required by the Transportation Infrastructure Investment Act of 2013, which requires a fare increase by a minimum of 10 cents every two years.
As a result, single-trip fares will increase from $1.90 to $2 for core service, which were last changed in 2019.
Riders using CharmPass, the MTA's mobile-ticketing app, get free transfers within 90 minutes when riding between bus, light rail and Metro subway.
The MTA also offers CharmFlex, a discounted fare option to accommodate Marylanders who are returning to onsite work on a more flexible or hybrid work schedule. Launched in August, CharmFlex three- and 10-day passes can be used on consecutive or non-consecutive days and are valid for up to 12 months after purchase. Using CharmFlex, riders pay about 15% less compared to the cost of a day-pass or single-trip fare. As of June 26, the three-day CharmFlex pass will cost $11.70 and the 10-day pass will cost $39.10.
Single-trip fares for MobilityLink paratransit service will increase from $2.10 to $2.20.
The fare increase was scheduled to take effect last year but was mitigated through the governor's use of funds from the American Relief Plan Act, MTA said.
