Second carrier is another man aged around 30

Israel on Saturday confirmed its second case of the monekypox, with a 30-year-old man aged confirmed as a carrier of the virus.

Last Saturday the Health Ministry confirmed Israel's first case of the epidemic. Tel Aviv's Ichilov Hospital said a man in his 30s, who recently returned from Western Europe, tested positive.

As with the first patient, the man diagnosed in Tel Aviv's Shiba Medical Center was feeling well and released home where he is expected to remain in quarantine. And, just like the first patient, he too recently returned from a trip abroad.

Monkeypox was first detected in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1970 and is considered endemic in around a dozen African countries.

Its appearance in non-endemic countries concerned experts, although the cases reported so far were, for the most part, mild, resulting in no fatalities.

The initial symptoms include a high fever, swollen lymph nodes and a chickenpox-like rash.
