A blizzard warning, winter storm warning and winter weather advisory have been issued for parts of Maryland as a nor'easter churns up the East Coast. Forecasters expect the most severe weather will hit the Eastern Shore in Maryland, while other jurisdictions in eastern Maryland prepare for a few inches of snow.Worcester County is under a blizzard warning from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday.

About 8 to 12 inches of snow may fall during the blizzard warning period, according to the weather service.

Wind gusts as high as 50 mph may snap down tree branches and make travel almost impossible, officials said. During the warning period, people should only travel if there is an emergency.

"If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle," officials warn. People should keep winter survival kits in their vehicles if they must travel during the blizzard warning period. Officials advise bringing an extra flashlight, food and water.
