Three firefighters died in a vacant home in southwest Baltimore Monday morning, officials said.

The rowhouse collapsed during the firefight, trapping four first responders inside, according to authorities. One firefighter was hospitalized and in critical condition, officials said Monday evening.

The two-alarm fire broke out in the 200 block of South Stricker Street, where crews battled the blaze around 6 a.m., officials said.

These firefighters died, according to a joint statement from the mayor and fire chief:

"All made the ultimate sacrifice," Mayor Brandon Scott said in a statement. He called them "heroes of the Baltimore City Fire Department."
