'There's a future in Israeli innovation when it comes to… climate change solutions'
The United Nations climate summit (COP26) is well underway as world leaders were able to share the global stage in recent days.
One of the more recent developments was the signing of 90 countries onto the global methane pledge, promising to bring down emissions of methane by 30 percent by 2030.
Rachel Barr, Vice President of Sustainability at UBQ Materials - an Israeli cleantech startup - is representing Israel at COP26, focusing on ways to convert landfills into waste.
“Methane is a very powerful greenhouse gas… every ton of methane that is emitted is causing incredible amounts of global warming potential,” Barr told i24NEWS from Glasgow, Scotland.
Barr’s company UBQ Materials takes trash from households and “anything that can’t be recycled," and converts it into bio-based thermoplastic composite for reuse, such as “McDonald’s trays” and parts for “Mercedes cars.”
