It is rare for Israel to carry out strikes on targets in Syria during daylight hours
An Israeli missile strike on Saturday killed five pro-Iran terrorists near Damascus, a British war monitor claimed.
Typically, Israeli strikes against Iranian-backed targets in the war-torn country occur late at night, yet Saturday's reported attack took place in broad daylight.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strike "destroyed a Hezbollah and Iranian weapons and ammunition" convoy heading towards Lebanon.
At least five pro-Iranian terrorists were killed and several wounded, according to the Observatory.
Syrian state media reported earlier Saturday that Israel had struck targets west of Damascus using surface-to-surface missiles and that air defense systems had intercepted some of the missiles.
The state news agency SANA reported that two Syrian soldiers were wounded in the attack.
According to Israeli and Western intelligence sources, Iran is moving parts of its advanced missile and arms industry into Syrian underground compounds to develop a sophisticated arsenal within range of Israeli population centers.
While Israel Defense Forces spokespeople rarely acknowledge individual strikes, Israeli politicians have repeatedly addressed the military's operations in the neighboring country aimed to thwart Iranian entrenchment.
