Israel's National Security Council on Monday canceled a travel warning that had been in effect for more than a decade.

In a statement, the council said the decision was taken following an assessment that the estimated level of threat to Israelis in Morocco declined after last year's normalization agreement signed by the two countries.

“The estimated level of threat in Morocco has dropped,” The Council said in a text message. “At the same time, it is advisable to continue to exercise increased vigilance while staying in the country.”

Israelis were allowed to travel to Morocco even before the countries agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations under the Abraham Accords.

The first direct commercial flights between Israel and Morocco took off in July, more than seven months after the countries normalized diplomatic relations.

Earlier this month, the Foreign Ministry's appointments committee approved Israel's charge d'affaires in Morocco, David Govrin, as its permanent ambassador.

In August, Israel's Foreign Minister Yair Lapid visited Morocco to upgrade diplomatic ties between the two countries. This was the first official visit from an Israeli diplomat since 2003.
