Lapid, the PM-in-waiting, said he doesn't rule out he would pursue the plan himself

The so-called two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not on the cards while right-winger Naftali Bennett is the head of the Israeli government, Israel's Alternate Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said on Thursday.

Lapid, a political centrist, has however left open the possibility that such solution could be back on the agenda once he takes over from Bennett in two years, as per the power-sharing coalition agreement struck between the two earlier this year to oust Benjamin Netanyahu from power.

Speaking to Israel's Channel 11 News, Lapid said that neither he nor Bennett have spoken to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

These topics and more are expected to be on the agenda when Bennett travels to Washington, DC next week to meet with US President Joe Biden

According to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, the visit will provide "an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss the efforts undertaken to advance the peace, security and prosperity of Israelis and Palestinians and the importance of working for a more peaceful and secure future for the region."
