The number of new cases remains high even as Israel is expanding its booster shot campaign
The number of Israelis hospitalized in life-threatening condition due to complications from Covid-19 has dropped to 594 on Friday, according to an update to the Health Ministry's website.
In the past 24 hours Israel logged over 7,700 new cases of the virus, as the highly contagious delta variant is driving the spread of morbidity.
Also on Friday, Israel expanded the campaign to offer booster shots of the vaccine to those aged 40 and upward, with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett setting an example and getting the booster shot live on television.
Israel has recorded more than 970,000 coronavirus infections since the pandemic started early last year, and over 6,700 deaths.
More than 5.4 million people have received two doses of the vaccine, while 1.2 million have had a third jab.
