Israel became the first country to offer third vaccine shot to the non-immunocompromised

Israel on Saturday launched an around-the-clock drive to offer vaccinations to accommodate those who prefer to perform the procedure at unconventional hours.

The first nightly walk-in vaccination site began operating in Tel Aviv's Dizengoff Square on Saturday; its working hours are 8pm to 4am.

The initiative will be replicated in several other Israeli cities for the next several days.

While Israel garnered worldwide acclaim for its record-setting vaccination campaign earlier this year, the spread of the highly contagious delta variant has put a considerable strain on its healthcare services.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has reiterated his position that lockdowns are a last resort measure, saying that despite the rise in morbidity he intends to keep the economy open for now. He urged those Israelis who haven't gotten the jabs yet to rush to the vaccination centers.

Israel is now offering a booster shot of the vaccine to those aged 50 and upward, the first nation to implement a rollout of the third vaccination shot to the non-immunocompromised.
