Lt.-Col. G. expected to lead Military Intelligence Directorate’s artificial intelligence revolution

The Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) Military Intelligence Directorate (MID) appointed the first-ever female deputy chief of Unit 8200, the directorate’s main information gathering unit, reported the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS).

The 39-year-old Lt.-Col. G - who will be promoted to a full colonel on the assumption of her duties - has wide-ranging experience within the unit, having performed a variety of roles in the directorate’s cyber, intelligence and operations divisions.

“I have been privileged to serve in Unit 8200, whose mission is to maintain Israel’s security,” said G. “Along with members of Unit 8200 and MID, I will lead the issue of artificial intelligence and information superiority in a way that will enable its rapid implementation in favor of significant leaps in the IDF’s operational effectiveness, [in] exposing the enemy and destroying it. I thank my commanders for trusting me and my abilities.”

As the IDF modernizes to take on the challenges of the 21st century, one of its behind-the-scenes alterations is the number of women who are being promoted to senior leadership roles within different units, which is an aspect that IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi has deliberately driven.
