Baltimore City Councilman Yitzy Schleifer Introduces Bill To Raise Reward Money Leading To Arrests In Violent Crimes

Raising the reward money to get violent criminals off the streets.

A Baltimore City councilman introduced a bill Monday night that he thinks will make more people call in tips to police.

Prayer vigils for peace were held throughout Baltimore Monday night. It is a community wide effort, calling for an end to violence to honor victims and support their families.

Providing closure to families is part of the goal of a new charter amendment proposed by Baltimore City Councilman Isaac "Yitzy" Schleiffer.

It's all about raising money to be able to offer large rewards for information about violent crimes, like shootings and homicides.

"This is a proven method that when there's rewards — high dollar rewards— people are more likely to share the information that they have," Schleiffer said.

Schleiffer points out that $2,000 or $3,000 rewards don't often get as much attention as those in the $10,000 or $20,000 range or even higher. Read more at WBALTV
