However, severe infections remain low and vaccinations also broke 3-month record
Israel's Health Ministry on Wednesday registered the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases in three months as the country races to contain an outbreak that includes the highly contagious Delta variant circulating globally.
A total of 293 people tested positive for the coronavirus over the previous 24-hour period, the highest daily total since April, but nowhere near the daily totals from early in the year when the numbers reached into the thousands.
The number of severe infections remain low, standing at just 24 patients out of 1,760 active cases, with 17 of those patients in critical condition and 16 on respirators, according to Health Ministry data.
The positive test rate stands at 0.5 percent out of 67,895 tests administered on Tuesday.
Israel also broke a three-month record in the number of people vaccinated as the country ramps up efforts at inoculating adolescents. A total of 16,321 people got the first dose and 3,453 people received the second jab.
