Jerusalem, Israel - June 24, 2021 - As the world slowly emerges from a year dominated by the coronavirus pandemic, many have suffered various forms of memory loss.  Whether from “Corona brain” or cognitive decline due to isolation and under-stimulation, many have found the difficult time has taken a toll on brain function.

Rena Yudkowsky, an MSW expert in memory training, suggested to BJL, four tips from her series of free one-minute video tips called 'A Minute of Memory Matters'.

1.TIP turn it into a picture:

Our mind thinks in pictures. If you want to remember a name, number, or concept, turn it into a picture. The visual image will come to you a lot faster when you try to recall it. Make the visual image very vivid, funny, out of proportion, colorful, and you have a much higher chance of remembering it. For example, if you want to remember where you parked your car on 3B of the parking garage, imagine three huge bees buzzing around your car.

2. MIM make it meaningful:

It is much easier to remember something that has meaning to you. When you are introduced to  a new person, ask yourself, “what does that name mean to me?”

3. Breathe - to recall:

When something is on the tip of your tongue, take a deep breath or two. Your brain needs oxygen. Relax and allow the memory to come to you without panicking about forgetting. Panic makes us hold our breath which in turn makes it more difficult to recall.

4. Use environmental cues:

Want to remind yourself to do something? One example: move your ring to a different finger. Try putting the garbage right by the front door to remember to take it out. Move an object out of place to trigger your memory, for example, put your shoe on top of the bill to pay so that when you see it, it cues you to pay the bill.
