Pompeo: UAE F-35s Sale ‘Critical’ To Abraham Accords

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told an Israeli newspaper that one of the catalysts for last year’s historic Abraham Accords was a US agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to sell F-35 fighter jets.

Rumors began circulating about the centrality of the promise of selling advanced weaponry to the UAE soon after the accord’s signing on the White House lawn in September.

Despite strong US, Israeli, and Emirati denials that the F-35 deal was a significant constituent part of the normalization agreement between Israel and the UAE, a source with direct knowledge of the talks admitted to The Times of Israel (TOI) that both the US and Israel knew that Abu Dhabi’s receipt of advanced weaponry was “very much part of the deal.”
