The European Commission recently released a report which showed that antisemitic content on several platforms surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in French and German.
Researchers at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), an anti-extremism nonprofit, looked at content on Facebook, Twitter, and Telegram and found a seven-fold increase of French-language anti-Semitic content in January and February this year, compared to the same time last year. In German, the researchers found a 13-fold increase in anti-Semitic content, reported Politico.
Antisemitic posts across the major platforms were liked, shared, or commented upon billions of times.

Telegram was the most significant platform for the proliferation of antisemitism in German, while in French, Twitter was most prominent one. Facebook was the second-most popular platform for antisemitism in both languages.
“During the pandemic, Jews have been baselessly blamed for creating and spreading the virus on purpose,” commented European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas at a meeting of the working group on the implementation of the Council declaration on the fight against antisemitism.
