3 Maryland Hospitals Get 5-star Rating On 2021 National Ranking

Three Baltimore-area hospitals are among the best 455 hospitals in the country, receiving a five-star designation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Mercy Medical Center, the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center and Howard County General Hospital received an overall five-star rating.

The Overall Hospital Quality Star rating (overall star rating) summarizes a variety of measures across five areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital. Scores are based on five measure groups, including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care.
