Islamist party leader says 'optimistic' about chances of forming new government

Ra'am party leader Mansour Abbas arrived Tuesday to the Kfar Maccabiah resort hotel in Ramat Gan to join negotiations to form a unity government that would remove Benjamin Netanyahu from power after 12 years as Israel's longest-serving prime minister.

With the support of the Islamist party likely needed to swear in the "change government," Abbas told reporters that he was "optimistic" about the chances of forming a new government and that he will be "part of the coalition."

Abbas also stressed that the deal is not finalized.
