While government coalition talks continue following Israel's 2021 election, far-right Religious Zionist Party leader Bezalel Smotrich said Thursday morning that "there will be no right-wing government with the backing of Mansour Abbas, period."
“The irresponsible voices of some right-wing elements in recent days who support such reliance… reflect dangerous confusion," Smotrich, posting the statement on his personal Facebook page, continued.
"Friends, get this out of your head. It will not come about, not on my watch.”

Abbas, head of the Islamist Ra'am party, emerged as a possible kingmaker following Israel's fourth national election on Tuesday.
With more than 99.5% of ballots counted, the so-called "anti-Netanyahu" bloc nor the bloc that has publicly pledged to support Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have enough mandates to form a government.
The outcome of the election makes the task particularly difficult for Netanyahu, who will likely need the support of the two ideological foes to cobble together a functioning coalition.
