The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday delivered a shipment of 61,440 Pfizer and AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines to the Palestinians, the international body said.

The batch, delivered via Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport, was sent as part of the COVAX initiative, a program aimed to reach global equitable access to coronavirus vaccines.

After landing in Israel, the shipment made its way to the Betunia Crossing, facilitated by the Israeli military’s Unit for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), and will be handed over to Palestinian Authority representatives.

Around 20,000 doses will later be transferred to the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Read more at i24
