Israel's coronavirus czar Professor Nachman Ash told public broadcaster Kan News radio on Sunday that the wearing of masks in public may not be necessary and "may not be enforced by police."
But in order to avoid any confusion, he explained, "at this stage, we do not yet know the degree of protection of the vaccine, so we prefer to protect ourselves" and not institute any changes in the current policy.

“It is not over. We must continue to be careful, keeping social distance and wearing masks. We have a way to go until it’s over,” he added.
Health authorities fear the spread of new variants across the country, especially a new strain from New York which could be resistant to the vaccine would jeopardize efforts made so far in the fight against the pandemic.
