'They are doing themselves a favor, they are not doing me a favor,' Lion said

The mayor of Jerusalem warned Muslim worshippers on Tuesday that mosque visitations, schools, and hotels will be strictly forbidden if members of the community remain unvaccinated.

Mayor Moshe Lion made the pronouncement in a meeting with local Arab officials following concerns over low vaccination rates in the city, especially east Jerusalem.

“They are doing themselves a favor, they are not doing me a favor,” Lion can be heard in an audio recording of the meeting.

“If they do not want to be vaccinated, they will not be vaccinated, but they will not be allowed to enter hotels, they will not be allowed to enter mosques, they will not be allowed to enter schools, and then they will say: ‘Why didn’t you tell us?'”

The meeting comes as Israel's world-leading vaccination program begins to lose steam as the number of new patients signing up for inoculations has dropped more than 50 percent over the last week.
