Call makes for first open and direct contact between PA and Biden administration

Palestinian Authority (PA) Civil Affairs Minister Hussein al-Sheikh hailed on Monday a "positive" phone call with a State Department official.

Al-Sheikh spoke with Hady Amr, US Deputy Assistant State Secretary for Israel and Palestinian Affairs; according to the former's tweet, the two discussed the bilateral ties, the political situation and the latest developments.

"It was a positive conversation, and it was agreed to continue communication," al-Sheikh said in the post.

Under former President Barack Obama, Amr, who is said to have close ties with PA higher-ups, was Deputy Special Envoy for the Israeli-Palestinian Negotiations for Economics and Gaza.
