Gov. Hogan visits Maryland National Guard at U.S. Capitol, briefed on security operations

Since sending Maryland National Guard troops into Washington to help handle the Capitol riots, Gov. Larry Hogan has checked on them and was briefed on how they will handle Inauguration Day on Wednesday. 

“The State of Maryland will do everything we can to protect the transition of power," Hogan said in a news release. "We continue to work closely with allied law enforcement and federal partners to support the inauguration. I am looking forward to attending the ceremonies on Wednesday to represent the people of Maryland.”

Hogan issued 500 National Guard members and 200 state troopers to Washington on Jan. 6. According to the news release, Hogan has extended their mission to stay throughout the end of the month. 

During his visit, Hogan met with Maryland’s Brigadier General Janeen L. Birckhead, who has been selected to serve as Commander of National Guard Task Force Capitol Grounds. The task force conducts area security operations for the U.S. Capitol, U.S. Supreme Court and the Library of Congress buildings in support of U.S. Capitol Police.Read more at WBAL
