New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the city would be terminating its contracts with the Trump Organization, but most of them were reportedly set to expire in the coming months anyway.
The mayor announced the plan to sever ties with the president’s organization on Wednesday, citing the siege at the Capitol as the impetus behind the decision. Of the four contracts the city has with the Trump Organization, one is for a golf course in the Bronx, two are for ice skating rinks, and one is for the carousel at Central Park. The three latter contracts are set to expire in April, according to Politico.

“The city of New York is severing all contracts with the Trump Organization,” de Blasio said on MSNBC. “Our legal team has done an assessment, and the contracts make very clear, if a company, the leadership of that company is engaged in criminal activity, we have the right to sever the contract. Inciting an insurrection, let’s be clear, I’ll say these words again, inciting an insurrection against the United States government clearly constitutes criminal activity. So the city of New York will no longer have anything to do with the Trump Organization. They have profited from these contracts. They will profit no longer.”
The carousel agreement was a $2.5 million, 10-year deal, and it’s set to expire on April 9. The ice skating rinks agreement, which the Trump Organization has run since 2001, is set to expire on April 30, Politico reported.
