UN inspectors said that Iran is installing equipment capable of producing uranium metal

Iran may be capable of developing weapons-grade atomic material after taking dramatic new steps in enhancing its top-secret nuclear program, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

Citing a confidential report written by United Nations inspectors, the Journal reported that the Islamic Republic has begun work on an assembly line that manufactures a key material at the core of nuclear warheads.

The development, UN inspectors fear, will increase already fraught tensions between Tehran and the incoming President-elect Joe Biden's administration, making it more difficult for the US to reenter the Iranian nuclear deal with world powers.

Inspectors with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iranian officials notified them that they will begin to install equipment capable of producing uranium metal in the next four to five months at a site in Isfahan, according to the Journal. Read more at i24
