Coronavirus Cabinet convenes as deliberations over third restrictions easing phase continue

During Israel’s Coronavirus Cabinet meeting, outgoing pandemic czar Prof Ronni Gamzu proposed Wednesday to use security cameras spread across cities to examine how many of the population wear face masks.

Attorney General Avichai Mandleblit disqualified the recommendation at first, saying “we are not going to complicate the situation with a camera array or people informing on one another. Only the police have the authority to hand out fines,” he added as cited by outlet Walla News reported.

Gamzu then clarified that the purpose of cameras is for conducting surveys and not for fines -- to which Mandleblit replied that in that case, he would support the proposal.
