IDF Chief of Staff Kochavi honors Rabin's memory in letter to soldiers

Israel is set to mark the 25th anniversary of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in November.

On Thursday, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi sent a letter to the soldiers, honoring Rabin, saying "turmoil and the sense of grief reached every house in the country" after he was killed.

Rabin, one of the key architects of the Oslo Accords between Israel and Palestinians, was murdered on November 4, 1995, after a rally at the Kings of Israel Square in Tel Aviv, now renamed Rabin Square.

He was shot dead by Yigal Amir, a right-wing radical who was against the Accords - while many thought they brought the promise of peace - leaving Israeli society deeply divided. Read more at i24
