Netanyahu Says No Change In West Bank Annexation Plans Despite UAE Peace Deal

Trump announced the historic deal between the two countries via Twitter on Thursday evening

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that there is "no change" to his plans to apply sovereignty over territories in the West Bank in the wake of a historic peace agreement with the UAE. 

While delivering remarks from his office in Jerusalem, Netanyahu noted, however, that Israel's annexation plans are "temporarily" suspended and will only be pursued in tandem with the Trump White House. 

"There is no change in my plans to apply sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, with full coordination with the US,” he said, referring to the West Bank by its biblical name.

US President Donald Trump announced the historic deal between the two countries via Twitter on Thursday evening. 

As part of the agreement, Israel has agreed to suspend its annexation plans, in accordance with the US administration's vision for Middle East peace, over parts of the West Bank. 

For its part, the United Arab Emirates said Thursday that its deal to normalize relations with Israel was "a bold step" to secure a two-state solution to the long-running Israel-Palestinian conflict. Read more at i24
