Italy and Spain, two of the European nations hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic, announced plans on Sunday to begin easing restrictions in early May.
Italy will keep schools closed until September but begin reopening its manufacturing industry May 4, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said, while Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Spain will ease some lockdown measures to allow family walks and individual outdoor exercise beginning May 2, according to Politico.
The European Commission has urged members to jointly coordinate plans for lifting restrictions but thus far nations have presented their individual plans separately. Belgium plans on opening schools May 18, while France is targeting May 11.
