Newly Released Poll Shows T.J. Smith Leading Race For Baltimore Mayor

BALTIMORE — A newly released poll shows former Baltimore Police and Baltimore County spokesman T.J. Smith leading the crowded race for City Mayor.

Former mayor Sheila Dixon and City Council President Brandon Scott, are in second and third place according to the poll conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy.

The poll found Smith with 22% of support from likely Democratic primary voters. Dixon showed 18% with Scott at 15%.

Former Maryland Deputy Attorney General Thiru Vignarajah came in fourth at 12%, with former business executive and federal official Mary Miller getting 9%, and current mayor Jack Young only drawing 7%.

The other 17 candidates are splitting 2% of the total vote and 15% are still undecided.

Out of 400 voters who were surveyed, the poll found Smith leading among African-Americans at 27%, women at 25%, and 25% of those over the age of 50.

The poll concluded that Smith has only 71% name recognition, far lower than the other leading candidates, but 42% overall have a favorable opinion of him and only 8% have an unfavorable view. Read more at WMAR
