Baltimore, MD - July 25, 2019 - We seem to be hearing more and more about addictions and the terrible effects that they have on our community. Do you feel helpless when you read about addictions?

Chayeinu invites you to attend a very important and valuable training session. You can be a part of our community’s increased efforts to combat the scourge of deaths from addiction. Almost everyone now knows some family that has been affected by the tragic loss of a child or other loved one who suffered from a substance use disorder. Baltimore’s Vaad HaRabbanim has encouraged us to raise awareness and bring this information to the attention of as many members of the community as possible.

You can literally save a life if you have the right product at the right time. We will train you to administer Narcan if someone is suffering from an overdose of opioids such as codeine, fentanyl, heroin, methadone, morphine, oxycodone (e.g. OxyContin), and Vicodin.

Narcan is a commercial name for the medication “naloxone.” Naloxone is a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist—meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of other opioids. It can very quickly restore normal respiration to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped as a result of overdosing with heroin or prescription opioid pain medications.

This brief training program will feature two special guests: one whose life was saved by Narcan and one who saved a life by administering a dose of Narcan.

Our very own Delegate, Dalya Attar, is a co-sponsor of this event.  She has made it a high priority to help save lives through training, awareness and education. The program is also cosponsored by Ner Tamid Congregation and Amudim.
