Jerusalem, Israel - May 14, 2019 - One year ago, May 14, 2018, the United States officially moved their embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Israel. Today, on Agron Street, the site of former consulate, to be the official residence of the Ambassador, has signs in place.
At the David Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem, a few feet away, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara, Tuesday, May 14, 2019, attended an event marking the one year anniversary of the US Embassy moving to Jerusalem and the declaration regarding the move of the US Ambassador's official residence to Jerusalem.
Also in attendance were US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman and his wife Tammy, as well as Guatemalan First Lady Patricia Morales and Guatemalan Ambassador to Israel Mario Bucaro.
Ambassador Friedman spoke on the move of the Embassy to Jerusalem.
The writing of the mezzuzah was completed on stage. Chief Rabbi David Lau spoke of finding where his grandparent's home was in Poland, by the indentation left from their mezzuzah.
In his remarks PM Netanyahu said, "There is a new efflorescence, a new renaissance of relations between us and many of our Arab neighbors, and many non-Arab Muslim countries. We are united in our desire to stop Iranian aggression. Israel and all the countries of the region and all the countries who seek peace in the world should stand together with the United States against Iranian aggression. We have to keep on strengthening the State of Israel and keep on strengthening the indispensable alliance with America."
Jerusalem's significance to the Jewish people over the thousands of years was theme of evening.
After the speeches and the presentation of awards, and the mezzuzah and special engraved case, a copy of the Embassy stone was on the stage at the end of the program.
Among the US and Israel officials in attendance were Aryeh Livingstone, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely, former MK Yehudah Glick and his wife, Nitzan Chen, head of the Government Press Office, new MK Nir Barkat, Efi Stenzler, and Michael Oren.
Also among the invited guests were tech writer Hillel Fuld, and former Marylander Elie Pieprz and his wife, and from Baltimore, Jeremy Lustman and his daughter, Merav.
The event was sponsored by the Friends of Zion Museum, headed by Mike Evans, who spoke and presented the awards.
