The U.S. Post Office will be closed Wednesday as part of the federal government's National Day of Mourning for President George H.W. Bush.

Bush, the 41st president of the United States, died Friday at age 94. Bush was president from 1989 to 1993.

Most federal offices will be closed Wednesday. Agencies involved in national security and defense will be open.

President Donald Trump "has issued an Executive order to close Federal offices and excuse all Federal employees from duty for the scheduled workday on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, except those who, in the judgment of the head of the agency, cannot be excused for reasons of national security, defense, or other essential public business."

Bush will lie in state at the Capitol Rotunda beginning tonight through Wednesday. The public can begin to pay respects starting at 7:30 p.m. EST.

A funeral service is planned for Wednesday at Washington National Cathedral.
