Israel's Health Ministry said it has recorded 3,962 new coronavirus cases since Friday as the country readies for a second national lockdown in the coming days.

The death toll in Israel also saw a significant spike, which currently stands at 1,101.

Earlier this week, Israel saw a record-high daily infection rate, topping 4,146 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. 

With over 47,000 tests performed over the past 24 hours, the positive test ratio stood at 8.8 percent, a result consistent with the past few days.

The number of active cases in the country stands at 34,731, including 991 patients in hospitals. Read more at i24
