Jerusalem, Israel - June 9, 2022 - Midday on Thursday, June 9, 2022, a swearing-in ceremony was held at Beit Hanasi, in Jerusalem, Israel for two new Israeli Supreme Court Judges. The main room of the Israeli President's Residence is the regular venue for the various Israeli judicial swearing-in ceremonies.

Newly appointed to the Supreme Court were Yechiel Meir Kasher and Ruth Ronnen. Also in attendance were members of the Judicial Selection Committee, recently retired Supreme Court Judge Neal Hendel, the presidents of the courts, the appointed judges, and their families.

The President of the Supreme Court Justice Esther Hayut and the Minister of Justice, Gideon Saar, assisted President Isaac Herzog in formally presenting documents and spoke at the ceremony following the President.

In his speech, the President referred to the status of the court and said: "The Supreme Court is indeed the pinnacle of the Israeli justice system, but its feet are deeply rooted in the ground of reality. They will be able to testify that the Supreme Court is a real address for many and many Israeli citizens, individuals, and groups, from all sectors and avenues of society. "The public is what underlies the doing, and the doing is great. Looking at just one statistic illustrates this best of all: more than ten thousand cases are tried in the Supreme Court every year - ten thousand cases!"

"Who like you can know and recognize how great the mission is and how deep the responsibilities are now on your shoulders," the president said, adding: "You come to the Supreme Court with decades of experience in law, practice, and jurisdiction. "

The president concluded his remarks with a quote from the Vice President of the Supreme Court - Justice Mishael Cheshin: "Things that the soaring eagle will see from heaven will not see the lizard crawling on earth": "Indeed, esteemed judges, this important combination of judgment between the examining gaze above and seeing the citizen at eye level, constitutes an important tier in fulfilling your mission. Fulfill your important responsibility while constantly combining compliance with the law and seeing the general good of society, of the individual - and especially of the balance between them, and thus will be your contribution. Direct power to you - and with great success. "

President Herzog mentioned multiple ties with Justice Ronnen and her family, however, it seems Justice Kasher is one of the only people the Herzog family was not connected with in the past.

The president of the Supreme Court, Justice Esther Hayut: "The desire to maintain human diversity among Israeli judges does not stem only from a neutral approach according to which" it is not better than this. " I believe that diversity itself promotes the excellence and quality of the decisions and judgments that are rendered in courts across the country. It allows different worldviews to meet within the walls of the court; It promotes judicial dialogue, And it improves and refines the legal decision. The promotion of human and professional diversity also plays a role in maintaining the public's trust in the judiciary.

Indeed, the judiciary is committed to doing everything possible to maintain and strengthen the public's trust in it. And I believe that we can do so if we work to reflect the wide range of voices, positions, and views of Israeli judges while preserving the status of the judiciary as a professional, independent and independent system. "

"We have proven that a diverse choice can be made in many ways while meeting the requirement of excellence. The great leaders in history are in the eyes of those who have realized that the core values they serve are greater than them. This understanding has led them to fulfill their role, in the deepest sense of the word, and not just carry it," stated Minister of Justice Gideon Saar.

Justice Kasher spoke and the singing of Hatikvah concluded the program. Following the ceremony, all the Supreme Court Judges posed as usual for official photos with the President and Justice Minister. Then the female Justices took another photo together. They also invited First Lady Michal Herzog to pose with them before the Kasher and Ronnen families came forward for photographs and to celebrate.
