Health Ministry retorts will not accept a 'situation where patients are used as a tool in negotiations'

Six public hospitals told Magen David Adom (MDA, Israel’s national emergency services) Thursday that starting January 24 they will not receive patients via ambulances who are not in a life-threatening state -- including COVID-19 patients.

According to hospital directors, due to the economic blow dealt during the coronavirus crisis, they have reached a situation wherein they lack the funds to pay for employees’ salaries, while medicines are depleting as well.

The public hospitals -- Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Laniado in Netanya, Mayanei HaYeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak, and three hospitals in Nazareth -- have protested over the past week to the Finance Ministry in demand to raise their budgets to that of government hospitals.
