Israel's crossing to Sinai, popular tourist destination for Israelis, was largely shuttered for about a year

The Taba crossing, connecting Israel with Egypt's Sinai peninsula, reopened on Tuesday for Israelis who had received both COVID-19 vaccine shots.

Under a plan approved by the government last week, up to 300 people per day will be able to use the crossing, for each direction.

The rules will remain in place until April 12, with some of the reports in Israeli media suggesting the number of daily passages will grow in the future.

Despite being vaccinated, those crossing the border will still need to present negative recent COVID-19 tests both on departure and on return.
